Board President Madonia Shares Meier Foundation Support of KRNU Renovation

As the first announcement as president of the board of the Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation, Anthony Madonia announces a $1.1 million investment from the Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation to renovate the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus radio station 90.3 KRNU. The foundation’s support along with the Nebraska Broadcasters Association will transform the station and allow the college to create a cross-platform media environment where students can tell stories through audio, video and digital formats.

Latest News from the Meier Foundation

The Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation supports a variety of community initiatives including natural resources, student scholarship and higher education pathways.  The foundation has a history of giving at Don Meier’s alma mater to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln including funding four endowed student scholarships and 14 existing scholarship programs.

The latest gift builds on the momentum of the 2022 construction of the Don and Lorena Meier Television Studio, funded by a combined $855,000 gift from the same donors. Together, these projects link KRNU with the college’s television, newsroom and podcasting spaces, creating an integrated learning environment where students gain real-world experience across media platforms.

Meier Foundation Board of Directors Led by Anthony J. Madonia

Under Madonia’s leadership, the Board of Directors continue the mission set in 1971 to support the funding of organizations and programs that focus on education, animal and wildlife preservation, conservation, and other charitable initiatives that seek to make a positive impact. The Don and Lorena Meier Foundation celebrates the legacy of Don Meier and his wife, Lorena. Both had distinguished television careers and created Mutual of Omaha’s “Wild Kingdom.” The Emmy-winning wildlife show starring zoologist Marlin Perkins aired nationally from 1963 to 1987, first on the NBC network and later in syndication. Episodes of the program currently air on RFD-TV and include new and updated content across many of its digital properties.
