End of an Era – Ben Hurwitz Retires

Farewell to Our Favorite Non-Socialite Ben Hurwitz

Known around the office for his crack of dawn start time and disdain of footwear, Ben Hurwitz, our fearless Tax Department leader, is set to retire. Much to his chagrin, we shone the spotlight on him one last time. We celebrated with him at a celebratory luncheon on October 5. His wife, Michelle, join to be sure he actually does retire and to reinforce his new motto: Retired-Under New Management-See wife for details.

Ben is happily transitioning away from his day-to-day work responsibilities after forty-six years of focusing exclusively on the providing of tax, accounting, and consulting services to a wide-varying array of clients in all fields and walks of life. He is looking forward to spending more time with family and actively pursuing his other charitable and personal interests including the Simonsen Foundation, any sport from University of Iowa and traveling more.

Hurwitz will wrap up leading the tax and accounting practice of Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, Ltd. (AJM&A), effective October 15, 2026. In this next phase of Ben’s work-life, he will continue to assist and serve a limited and specific group of clients for whom he has been working for a substantial number of years. We ensure this is a well-planned and thoughtful transition. We have a great staff member, Irina Heyer, who will transition into the department head position and lead CPA. All work and client responsibilities will be fully covered by the existing skilled and experienced AJMA staff.

Ben has always seen his career in the financial and public accounting industry as largely one of education and mentorship – “The lessons learned while sitting next to and listening to my mentors are lessons that I have always endeavored to pass forward to the next generation of financial leaders.” We are certain this pledge endures. We wish Ben the best of luck in retirement and success in this next step of his journey.
